The World Bank – Cities, Culture, Creativity: Learning from the Republic of Korea’s Experience

To follow the initial report in the series, Cities, Culture, Creativity: Leveraging Culture & Creativity for Sustainable Urban Development & Inclusive Growth, this report is tailored to the specific context of Korea. It is a joint work of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) and the World Bank.

We created a design concept that focuses on a typographical rendering of the ‘K’ prefix – that popularly denotes Korean culture. We referenced the colour scheme on the initial report and sourced these beautiful images from the Asia Culture Centre in Gwangju.

“The creative economy is one of the fastest-growing sectors of the world economy. It generates income, creates jobs, and brings in export revenue. CCIs contribute annual global revenues of US$2,250 billion and exports of over US$250 billion (2013), and they provide nearly 30 million jobs worldwide and employ more people aged 15−29 than any other sector. At a time when the culture sector has been devastated globally by the COVID-19 crisis, CCIs have untapped potential to help the world’s cities recover and gain resilience.”
