Shop floor experience
Decathlon get my vote for their staff induction model.
I was chatting to a neighbour of mine who’d just left his job with a London Council as Buildings manager which he’d been doing for some years.
He had started at Decathlon, that well known sporting goods store and I have to say I’m really impressed with what he’s been saying about his induction into the company.
For the last two weeks he’s been on the shop floor and in the workshop, pricing up, stacking shelves, building mountain bikes… How great is that? It’s nothing to do with Building management but what a great way to learn about the business – by actually getting involved in what that business does. Time well spent he agrees and now he can embark on his time there with common ground with his colleagues achieved and the ideas he brings will be relevant.
I know it’s not unique, but just encouraging when you see the enthusiasm this can generate.
